Since the beginning of his career, Stephen Burrow has represented hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, and laboratories in litigation. His trial and appellate experience in this complicated field has led him to be an approved and recommended counsel for the largest medical professional liability carrier in Mississippi.
Stephen also counsels healthcare providers on practice management, patient privacy, billing, and a host of other day-to-day issues. We have assisted healthcare facilities in drafting medical staff bylaws and other documents required for compliance with federal laws such as HIPAA and Stark. As part of his general business practice, Stephen has expertise in assisting healthcare professionals with entity selection and many organizational aspects of their business.
Stephen’s experience in Healthcare & Professional Liability includes:
- At the close of 4 days of testimony in a medical malpractice trial, the trial court granted a directed verdict in favor of defendant physician;
- In an arbitration where liability was clearly established, the award against the defendant-physician was substantially less than the demand;
- An expert hired by opposing counsel in a medical negligence case was jailed for refusal to comply with the subpoenas as issued; and
- In a brain-injury case involving a toddler against a defendant where economic damages exceeded $12 million, after seven days of testimony the jury returned a defense verdict for the physician.
